Be the Reason They Get a Second Chance.

Every day, dogs and cats in overcrowded shelters are waiting for someone to say yes. Yes to a safe place. Yes to a fresh start. Yes to the chance to become the beloved companion they were always meant to be. When you foster with Operation Paws for Homes, you open the door to that second chance.

Your home becomes their safe haven. Your care gives them time to decompress, heal, learn, and simply be a dog or cat again. Whether they need a place to land for a few days or a few months, your willingness to open your home helps an animal leave the stress of the shelter behind and begin the journey toward a forever family.

And you don't have to do it alone. OPH provides the support, resources, and guidance. You provide the home, the patience, and the love. Together, we save lives. You provide the love. We provide the support. Together, we change a life.

"Why I Foster"

"I started fostering honestly because I wanted a dog in the home without the full-time commitment of owning one, and knowing I had support in the organization was huge! But it quickly turned into falling in love with every pup and knowing that we saved them and gave them a better life; an irreplaceable feeling!"

Fostering FAQs

What Does a Foster Do?

Foster families provide temporary care for dogs, puppies, cats, or kittens until they are adopted.

As a foster, you'll help your pet:

  • Decompress from the shelter

  • Learn what it's like to live in a home

  • Build confidence and trust

  • Receive love, exercise, and enrichment

  • Prepare for their forever family

You'll also get to know their personality, helping us find the best possible match for adopters.

What Does it Cost to Foster?

Many people want to foster but worry about the cost or experience required. The good news is that you don't need to be an animal expert to make a difference.

Operation Paws for Homes provides:

  • Veterinary care

  • Preventive medications

  • Food (when needed)

  • Crates, litter boxes, and other supplies

  • Collars, leashes, and harnesses

  • Training guidance

  • A dedicated foster coordinator for support

Whether you're fostering for the first time or the fiftieth, we'll be with you every step of the way.

Why Should I Foster?

People foster for many different reasons.

You might want to:

  • Save the life of a homeless animal

  • Help a shy pet build confidence

  • Experience the joy of raising puppies or kittens

  • Make a difference without the lifetime commitment of adoption

  • See if a pet is the right fit for your family before adopting

  • Give back to your community

Every foster home allows us to rescue another animal in need.
